The conversion of the remains of a 25 sq. meter bank staircase area into an architectural office is a task demanding careful design solutions and emphasis on the details. Factors such as the direct contact with the central street due to the front glass screen and the commercial store typology, were a rigid starting point further developed by the new design: accessible and well-integrated in the adjacent commercial street and urban network, but at the same time different enough to make a statement and filtered from the public eye. The 2 floor glass façade is renewed and unified by with vertical elements. Metal strips frame the glass which most of it is covered by perforated metal from top to bottom. In the interior, alongside of the wall a library is constructed with low cabinets. Again here, the metal sheets, perforated or intact, are the protagonists as the vertical elements that combine with the wooden horizontal ones. All the metal parts of the façade and the interior are left to rust. The concept of time and ageing through this rust give a poetic essence to this space. It suggests aesthetic values beyond fleeting ephemeral trends, in harmony with the true nature of things and their genuine beauty.
